You’ll join a diverse team of engineers and specialists, collaborating across AWS to deliver the highest safety and security standards while providing scalable capacity at a low cost. As a Field Engineer, you will provide full life‑cycle support to AWS Data Centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform design and equipment submittal review for new Data Centers in your region.
• Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
• Support operational issues with ad‑hoc training, procedure reviews, and event support.
• Own the conceptual design for existing data‑center upgrades and design solutions, improving capacity, availability, efficiency, and sustainability.
• Interface with internal data‑center operations, design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health and safety teams to promote consistent standards.
• Work on concurrent projects, sometimes across multiple regions.
• Initiate and lead engineering audits, including on‑site visits, producing reports with risk recommendations and remediation.
• Act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering judgment and ability to recommend in the face of uncertainty/ambiguity.
• Excellent communication and writing skills; attention to detail; high quality standards.
• Organized, able to prioritize, meet deadlines and budgets.
• Experience solving problems with engineered solutions.
• Experience managing engineering projects and consultants.
• Build trust and relationships with stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Controls, Construction, Design, Commissioning, Product Managers, Technical Program Managers).
• Adaptable and willing to work in the field to see things up close.
• Excited about a mix of office and field work.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience with mission‑critical facilities engineering, including data centers, power generation, oil & gas facilities.
• Business‑level fluency in written and spoken English.
• Willing to travel between Data Center sites, and internationally if required.
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

• Data analytics skills, data querying, scripting, comfort working with large data sets.
• Direct experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers.
• Experience as resident engineer or hands‑on design consultant or owner’s engineer.
• Knowledge of building codes, regulations for your region; experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
• Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment/mass production.
• Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical equipment/design related to data centers (e.g., UPS, diesel generators, switch gear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, transfer switches, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, CRAHs, fans, air economizers, water treatment).
• EPMS/SCADA/BMS controls system experience.
• Business‑level fluency in written and spoken Italian.
