Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in clinical and non-clinical roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Crisis Practitioner within the South Glasgow Mental Health Crisis Team as a dynamic member of a multidisciplinary team. Appropriate up-to-date registration with your professional body is essential.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to individuals with complex mental health needs who present in crisis and require intensive mental health care and treatment at home as an alternative to hospital admission.
- Collaborate with inpatient services to facilitate early discharge from hospital.
- Work under the supervision of a Band 7 Crisis Team Leader and Senior Crisis Practitioners, participating in formal line management supervision.
- Carry out ongoing assessments, including risk assessment, and liaise with and update multiple stakeholders (GPs, CMHT, MHAU, Specialist Services and 3rd sector organisations).
- Supervise the practice of junior staff and student nurses, evaluate practice, and provide line management supervision and annual appraisals.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation to have a positive impact on patients’ lives, working effectively as both an individual and as part of a team.
- Operate within legal and ethical national frameworks, and adhere to local, national and organisational policies and guidance relating to professional conduct, practice and contractual obligations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Post-registration Registered Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist experience with the ability to manage significant risk within mental health.
- Hold a relevant mental health qualification.
- Full-time permanent post requiring PVG scheme membership/Disclosure Scotland check.
- Current driving licence is essential.
Working Arrangements and Additional Details
This is a full-time (37 hours) permanent post that operates over 7 days between 0900–2000 Monday to Friday, and 0900–1700 on Saturday and Sunday. Long days are available.

As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week . Part-time hours will be reduced pro-rata with a corresponding increase in hourly rate.
