Overview
Controls Engineer, Amazon Data Services, Inc. The role is part of the global controls team focused on troubleshooting, project management, and maintaining the building management system (BMS) and electrical power monitoring system (EPMS) in AWS data centers. You will develop new processes and standards while innovating in the controls space. AWS data centers include generators, UPS, diesel generators, switchgear, PDU, VFDs, transfer switches, chillers (air- and water-cooled), pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, CRAHs, air economizers, and other components with local control systems that interact via open and/or proprietary protocols. The BMS controls mechanical systems; the EPMS monitors electrical systems within a data center.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis or corrective action for BMS and EPMS issues in AWS data centers.
- Train and assist internal customers with the design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning, and operation of BMS and EPMS systems.
- Provide technical assistance and support to operations during the data center life cycle.
- Review results from quarterly maintenance for BMS and EPMS and take actions to resolve items.
- Develop project scope of work, schedule, budget, and level of effort (LOE) for BMS and EPMS initiatives.
- Manage scope, schedule, finance, and execution of BMS and EPMS improvement projects in AWS data centers.
- Assist in procurement activities including RFIs/RFPs, vendor evaluation, and purchase orders.
- Participate in AWS global on-call schedule to provide immediate BMS and EPMS technical support to in-service data centers.
- Attend project meetings, coordinate with project leaders, and report status to Controls and stakeholders.
- Support commissioning activities for Controls projects in data centers.
- Review, implement, troubleshoot, and iterate on the controls sequence of operation (SOO) and provide feedback to the design team.
- Develop and modify controls logic programming and graphical user interfaces.
- Manage multiple stakeholder deliverables and navigate challenging situations.
- Financially manage BMS and EPMS service contracts.
- Visit assigned data centers to troubleshoot, meet customers, and supervise vendor work for scope, design, SOO, and local codes compliance.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience with power management and power monitoring systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering science plus 5 years of relevant controls experience, or 10 years of relevant controls experience in lieu of a degree.
- 5+ years of experience with industrial controls in a critical environment (data center, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, oil & gas, petrochemical, laboratory, power, water, etc.).
- 4+ years of general project or vendor management experience (RFPs, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFIs, submittal tracking) related to construction and project execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of critical data center equipment.
- Experience in project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure.
- Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations with deep understanding of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure.
- Provide technical assistance and support to operations during life cycle of the data center.

The base salary range for this position and benefits information are provided in the posting. Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
