Construction Manager, AMZL Midwest Region
Amazon is looking for a Construction Manager to oversee project management of industrial development projects, including new builds, retrofits, expansions, and program initiatives from site selection through contract execution. The role involves construction of new facilities across the United States, renovation and tenant improvement of existing facilities, and implementation of facility network infrastructure for sortation centers, delivery stations, and auxiliary buildings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead project management for new construction and capacity improvements, ensuring alignment with schedule, cost, permitting, and operational goals.
- Advise on impacts of changes in schedule, costs, and permitting; support scope review and technical design with internal teams.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ranging from small renovations to large ($100M+) new facilities.
- Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analyses defining design requirements, equipment, and services for expansion and remodel projects.
- Provide technical direction for engineering design, AutoCAD, building layouts, build details, schedules, and materials.
- Survey facilities, audit infrastructure, and recommend solutions for safety, security, and operational issues.
- Negotiate contracts and contract changes with developers and general contractors; ensure contracts are fit for purpose, cost‑effective, and include appropriate service level agreements.
- Oversee site management, coordination, and subcontractor planning; facilitate due diligence for new opportunities.
- Assess project performance using safety, quality, cost, schedule, and sustainability KPIs.
- Coach and guide project teams (developers, design engineers, contractors, sub‑contractors, internal stakeholders) through the full project lifecycle.
- Audit contractor labor to ensure skills and competencies meet project needs.
- Identify and resolve clashes, design misses, and schedule conflicts with other Amazon execution teams.
- Establish and operate information systems for effective scheduling and recording of contract work.
- Lead negotiations with regulatory bodies and authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) when required.
- Maintain clear, concise, and transparent cross‑team communication on all project delivery aspects.
- Travel 60% regionally; may travel to all North America locations based on business needs.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 7+ years of experience in project management, real estate development, architecture, or design.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year of facilities management experience.
- Experience managing projects from design phase through implementation and operation.
- Experience negotiating and managing vendors, contractors, and subcontractors in construction and project execution.
- 7+ years of experience as an engineer and senior construction manager.

Location: Chicago, IL (subject to relocation or proximate commute). Salary range: $77,400.00 – $135,400.00 USD annually. Base compensation includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation is determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
