Commissioning Engineer – Data Centre Project - Milan


Overview:

A leading engineering and construction delivery partner is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support a new hyperscale data centre build in Milan . The role will cover the full end-to-end commissioning lifecycle , from early construction and system validation through integrated testing, energisation, and final handover into operations.

The position focuses on managing commissioning as a structured quality process, ensuring all electrical and mechanical systems are installed, tested, and operate in line with the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) and Basis of Design (BoD). You will play a key role in driving safe, compliant delivery on a large-scale, mission-critical facility.


Start Date: February 2025

Type: Freelance / Contract

Duration: 12 Months (extensions likely)

Location: Milan (site-based)

Rate: €50 p/h


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the full commissioning process across electrical and mechanical systems in line with project standards and commissioning plans.
  • Manage commissioning activities as a quality-driven process, ensuring systems are installed, tested, and function as designed.
  • Develop, review, and execute detailed commissioning scripts and procedures.
  • Coordinate with construction, QA/QC, testing, and operations teams to ensure readiness for energisation and handover.
  • Oversee testing of critical systems including UPS, switchgear, generators, and mechanical plant.
  • Identify, track, and resolve commissioning issues, defects, and punch items.
  • Ensure commissioning documentation is complete, accurate, and aligned with client requirements.
  • Provide clear reporting on commissioning progress, risks, and system readiness.
  • Work independently while integrating into the wider DCX programme delivery team.


Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in data centre facility maintenance, operations, and/or commissioning.
  • Degree-qualified (BSEE, Associate in Engineering Technology) or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong background in project management within mission-critical environments.
  • Solid knowledge of electrical and mechanical test equipment.
  • Proven experience commissioning UPS systems, switchgear, generators, and critical mechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of construction QA/QC processes.
  • Demonstrated ability in issue identification, tracking, and resolution management.
  • Fluent English (written and spoken); Italian is a plus.
