What They Are Looking For
They are seeking a Commercial Director to lead the commercial function across major programmes in Northern Italy, based in Milan. This is a board-level leadership role reporting into the Regional Managing Director, with responsibility for overseeing commercial strategy, governance and performance across complex, high-value building programmes.
This appointment supports continued expansion across the Italian market. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving commercial strategy, strengthening risk management frameworks, overseeing senior commercial teams and ensuring financial performance across multiple concurrent projects.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience delivering complex building programmes within a Tier 1 or international contractor environment. Strong knowledge of the Italian construction market is essential, and fluency in Italian is highly desirable. This role requires a commercially astute leader who can balance executive reporting with hands-on oversight across live project environments.

Responsibilities
- Lead commercial strategy across multiple high-value building programmes
- Oversee cost control, forecasting and financial governance at portfolio level
- Provide executive-level reporting to regional and global leadership
- Drive procurement strategy and high-value subcontract negotiations
- Strengthen contract management and risk mitigation frameworks
- Lead and mentor senior commercial managers and project QS teams
- Ensure compliance with local contractual and regulatory frameworks
- Manage client commercial relationships at executive level
- Oversee dispute resolution and final account strategy where required
- Support business development and bid strategy within the Italian market
Criteria for the Role
- Extensive senior-level commercial experience within Tier 1 or international contracting
- Proven track record delivering complex, high-value building programmes
- Strong understanding of the Italian construction market and regulatory environment
- Experience leading large commercial teams across multiple projects
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or related discipline
- Excellent commercial acumen and executive reporting capability
- Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills
- Fluency in Italian highly desirable
