Clinical Data Interoperability Internship
Location: ITA—Bari
Type: Full time
Job Requisition ID: JR108591
Opportunity to develop a semantic interoperability layer for mapping between heterogeneous clinical models, specifically transforming data from openEHR to HL7 FHIR. The internship focuses on building a semantic and structural mapping engine that translates clinical information represented as openEHR archetypes and templates into FHIR resources, ensuring consistency and interoperability across different information models. The prototype will be validated using a clinical use case in ophthalmology related to age‑related macular degeneration (wet AMD) in a European multicenter study coordinated by IER, Roche, and GH Celje, integrating clinical data and patient‑generated health data.
Responsibilities
Design and implement the transformation logic between openEHR and FHIR models.
Define mappings between openEHR structures and FHIR resources.
Handle conversion of clinical data and patient‑generated data into standardized formats.
Validate the prototype against a real clinical use case.
Qualifications
Enrolled in a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Basic knowledge of data modeling and software development acquired during university studies.
Academic familiarity with HL7 FHIR or openEHR standards.
Understanding of fundamental concepts related to health information systems.
Interest in semantic interoperability and clinical information standardization.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Team‑oriented work attitude.
Applications are accepted until 10/07/2026.
