Clinical Coding Expert (Remote, Italy)

Location: Italy (Remote, occasional travel up to 20%)

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced Clinical Coding Expert to join our growing international health information team. This role is ideal for someone who wants to apply their medical coding expertise in a forward-thinking environment, working on cutting-edge healthcare data solutions rather than only hospital billing.

You will use your knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding, clinical documentation, and healthcare data flows to help refine advanced coding products used by hospitals and healthcare providers. This is a unique opportunity to move beyond traditional coding into a role where you will help shape algorithms, improve accuracy, and support innovation in healthcare data management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contribute coding expertise to the refinement of automated coding algorithms.
• Build and manage test data sets (classification sets, gold standards, customer feedback).
• Ensure quality and accuracy through coding audits and QA of test corpora.
• Code medical records and clinical documents using ICD-9/10.
• Collaborate with customers to understand coding practices and align solutions with their needs.
• Stay up to date with coding guidelines, classification changes, and healthcare regulations.

What We’re Looking For:

• Training and hands-on experience in medical coding (ICD-9 required; ICD-10 a strong advantage).
• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical documentation.
• Fluency in Italian and English, with clear professional communication skills.
• Logical reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Experience with coding software and EHR systems is desirable.
• Coding certifications (CPC, CCS, or equivalent) are a strong plus.
