It develops and implements innovative technologies supporting the energy transition and offers Sustainable Technology Solutions and Integrated E&C Solutions for fertilizers, hydrogen, CO₂ capture, fuels, chemicals, and polymers – is seeking a Civil & Structural Steel Senior Engineer to join Tecnimont S.p.A., within the Civil & Structural function.


Key Activities & Responsibilities:


As a Civil & Structural Steel Senior Engineer will cooperate with the Project Director/Manager (PD/PM), Project Engineering Manager (PEM), Civil Discipline Lead (DL) in the execution of the Steelwork activities. The Specialist reports functionally to the DL for the project-specific details and hierarchically to the Group Leader (GL) or Head of Department (HoD) for the Company peculiarities and standards, including man-hours and the quality of the deliverables.


Main activities and duties will be:


  • to prepare and discuss with the Project Team (PD/PM, PEM and DL) and the HoD/GL the execution strategy of the project (including the project schedule) and assure its application throughout the entire project life;
  • to cooperate and coordinate with the PEM and the DL to create and maintain the project procedures, guidelines and standards;
  • to assure the coordination of the activities of the discipline regardless the location and distribution of the engineering centers guaranteeing the consistency of the documents with the contract, the respect of the time schedule, the implementation of the contract requirements, the compliance of the assigned budget (both cost and man-hours) and the quality of the deliverables under the guidance of the PEM and cooperating with the DL;
  • to interact with Client representatives and Vendors for all the technical topics impacting on the project for both time and costs;
  • to guarantee assistance to the Procurement, Inspection and Construction departments upon request as per project needs.
  • to guarantee the quality of the deliverables generated and their compliance with the contractual requirements of the project contracts satisfying the assigned budget and time schedule;
  • to assist the GL or the HoD in guaranteeing the application and the continuous updating of the department and company standards, procedures and work instructions;
  • to secure the steel works design (process industrial buildings, pipe racks, warehouse etc.), related to the assigned projects, on the basis given by the DL, and in agreement with other disciplines;
  • to coordinate Steel detailing Engineering subcontractors and Steel Vendors;
  • to coordinate all activities across different engineering centers, using the necessary engineers, checking the issued documents, in compliance with the budget and the schedule, while securing cost optimization.
  • to secure the 3D model and drawing extraction of steel works according to the structural calculation;
  • to coordinate the steel works design on the basis of the data received from other disciplines (Layout & Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation, Design HSE, Mechanical, Design & Utilities/Power Process, HVAC etc.);
  • to actively participate in planning and monitoring the steel works activities, from basic design, to fabrication, to eventually erection at site;
  • to prepare reports and Progress curves to be shared with PD/PM, PEM, DL, GL and HoDs
  • to coordinate a group of specialists/engineers to check and approve vendor’s documents (erection and shop drawings, list of materials, 3D model etc.);
  • to coordinate in the material requisition cycle (issue, bid technical evaluation, vendor qualification, supply follow up);
  • to cooperate with PEM and PM to provide feedback to the department’s chief concerning the problems occurred during the application of standard procedures and instructions, in order to improve department’s efficacy and efficiency;
  • to keep updated on department’s developments and improvements;
  • to conduct technical training as per department and Company needs and exchange experience with colleagues of the entire Tecnimont Group for new Design techniques;
  • to keep updated about the technical specific improvement of the discipline and transfer the knowledge to the other specialists and engineers;
  • to monitor the market about the “State of Art” to provide technical and commercial evaluations about new products, technologies, workflow, applications and so forth.


Personal Attributes:

  • Master’s degree in civil engineering is preferred;
  • minimum 5 years of experience in steel vendor coordination, preferable in plant engineering companies in petrochemical, oil & gas and power sectors;
  • experience in coordinating international Steel Vendor suppliers or Steel Mechanical Subcontractors, distributed in different locations (engineering centers or sites);
  • experience in engineering teams coordination;
  • basic knowledge of Project Management (e.g. Progress S-Curve);
  • expert in TEKLA Structure software for modelling and development purpose;
  • expert in AutoCad 2D drawings for modifying documents and in Autodesk Navisworks for clash detection;
  • knowledge of collaborative environment such as BIM360/ACC and/or Trimble Connect;
  • previous experience as BIM Specialist/Coordinator is a plus;
  • previous experience as Expediter is a plus;
  • previous experience in Steel Manufacturing is a plus;
  • fluent English speaker and writer is a must, knowing Italian is a plus;
  • availability to travel for short and long periods.
