Job Description: Chief of Staff

The Chief of Staff leads planning, organization, and execution of all Italian Leadership Team (LT) related events and deliverables in collaboration with the General Manager (GM), the management team, and the executive assistant. Cross-functional coordination across Italy is essential. The incumbent ensures links to regional teams in Zürich and global teams in Boston to optimize Italian organizational impact on strategies, plans, and execution for the benefit of patients. The role reports to the GM & Vice President, Italy. Seniority, experience, and confidentiality are essential.

You will be responsible for:

  1. Leading planning, organization, and execution of all LT-related events and deliverables, including LT meetings, business reviews, national meetings, and strategic projects for the Italian organization.
  2. Managing deliverables such as the Long Range Plan (LRP), Annual Operating Plan (AOP) including budget, monthly sales forecasts, and reports, as well as creating a cross-organizational Italy dashboard with the Commercial Operations team.
  3. Monitoring competitive intelligence and KPIs related to cross-functional execution.
  4. Collaborating with the LT and Communication department for townhalls and major communication events.
  5. Partnering with external engagement experts, GM, Government Affairs, Market Access, Patient Advocacy, and Communications to support external agreements.
  6. Leading activities related to Trade Associations (e.g., Assobiotec, Farmindustria).
  7. Supporting activities for the Organismo di Vigilanza in collaboration with the Finance Director.
  8. Working closely with the Head of Commercial for updates to LT and with People & Culture and Communication teams on local culture initiatives.
  9. Coordinating with Finance on planning and budget matters.
  10. Managing cross-functional project teams, ensuring stakeholder alignment with milestones.
  11. Collaborating with internal departments such as Compliance, Regulatory, Quality, Legal, and international stakeholders.
  12. Monitoring budgets for all projects.
  13. Performing additional activities as required by business needs, especially in transformation projects.

You will need to have:

  • At least 10 years of experience in the biopharma, pharma, orphan drugs, or specialty markets, or consulting experience.
  • Experience leading large projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Experience managing budgets (cost and sales).
  • Strong informal leadership and influence capabilities.
  • Good negotiation, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Alignment with Alexion values, especially regarding patient and employee focus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or scientific field.
  • Fluency in Italian and English, both written and oral.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong leadership experience.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration.
