Site Operations Department

The Site Operations Department is responsible for the overall health of all mechanical and electrical systems, building maintenance, and performance of all data modules in our data centers. The team is staffed 24 x 7 onsite with Critical Facilities Engineers (CFEs) working on shift and reporting to a Chief Engineer. This team is the face of Vantage to our customers and guarantees business continuity and excellence of operations at our campus and customer installations. Using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to plan and track maintenance activities, the department manages all preventative and corrective maintenance and supports a culture that rewards team performance that engages directly with customers and infrastructure.

Position Overview

The Campus Manager, Site Operations owns the overall operations for one or more data center campuses and directly manages a team of CFEs and their manager‑level positions. The Manager interfaces with the Operations Director, Reliability Engineering, Design Engineering & Construction, Health & Safety, Security and other resources to manage the overall campus and its workflow, training plans, event management, customer communications, hiring and performance of the team.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage the operations and engineering functions at the property to safely and effectively operate machinery and building systems.
  • Manage the site team to ensure a high‑level customer experience and operational excellence.
  • Ensure availability and capacity targets are achieved and maintained for data centers and technical infrastructure.
  • Encourage and foster a team‑oriented environment through positive feedback.
  • Hold employees accountable on preventive/corrective maintenance of facilities equipment.
  • Ensure customers are satisfied and issues with their services are resolved quickly and efficiently.
  • Understand the engineering and operational aspects of building systems and respond to performance deficiencies and emergency situations.
  • Ensure adequate training of all facility engineers and other personnel on electrical/mechanical equipment, system maintenance, repairs and operation.
  • Implement and apply Vantage policies on site relating to safety, security, quality and information systems.
  • Document crisis management of the site and apply its processes.
  • Collaborate with Vantage Operations at country level on all maintenance activity aspects of technical installations.
  • Implement best practices for smooth customer project implementation, completing projects in accordance with contracts and delivering all contractual obligations.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Technical background, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in facility/plant engineering and maintenance supervision.
  • 7+ years of direct managerial experience and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in Data Center or Critical Infrastructure industries.
  • Knowledge and experience of physical security in a critical environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Italian and English.
  • Proven track record of managing through significant people, process and technology change.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective cross‑functional collaboration to achieve shared goals and business objectives.
  • Travel expected to be less than 5%, occasionally for training purposes.

Duties

  • Manage resources allocated to the site to achieve customer satisfaction, infrastructure reliability, site‑level budget and key performance indicators.
  • Schedule, coordinate and oversee all maintenance vendors during maintenance and break/fix events.
  • Ensure personnel safety while protecting the facility’s critical equipment.
  • Develop required MOPs/SOPs with peers and subordinates.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with approved MOPs and Vantage’s Mission Critical Facility work rules.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with regulatory elements in force and support Vantage Operations and Best Practice standards.
  • Contribute to the deployment of tools and systems in collaboration with Vantage Operations and Vantage ICT.
  • Evaluate site continuity levels of service on a regular basis and define action plans to improve them.
  • Organise maintenance activities according to the annual preventive program.
  • Minimise risks to continuity of service and maximise site reliability.
  • Participate in tender calls and visits for customers and prospects.
  • Support day‑to‑day activities in relation to Vantage Operations and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Manage relationships between Vantage Operations, customers on site and third‑party suppliers, vendors and internal/external providers.
  • Ensure on‑site third‑party suppliers are motivated and dedicated to individual activities.
  • Follow up on capacity used for service availability and future growth for all technical installations.
  • Define the site capacity increase roadmap (short and medium term) to anticipate deficiencies.
  • Control and monitor energy quality at the supplier’s delivery point and energy usage on site.
  • Be responsible for achieving the best PUE for the site, managing PUE projects and reporting progress at the country level.
  • Ensure contract application and SLA tracking with suppliers/subcontractors.
  • Help evolve and support the growth of the national supplier list.
  • Set team performance goals with the Operations Director and VP, Site Operations and manage them to completion.
  • Evaluate and manage performance reviews for all employees, providing feedback and coaching.
  • Protect and improve the value of assets and ensure machinery and systems meet or exceed expected lifespan.
  • Prepare operational and capital portions of the Site Operations budget.
  • Promote targeted ISO certification sites and support the Vantage Quality & Safety Manager.
  • Produce reliable reports, data and metrics, including time recording.
  • Be responsible for all documentation related to the operational activities of the site.
