Aladdin's Cave are looking for a Toy Buyer who will be responsible for the product offering and overall running of these busy departments. Purchasing product, actively sourcing new suppliers, negotiating trading terms, and managing stock levels are key responsibilities, as well as the overall running of the Toy department. Associated responsibilities include product merchandising, dealing with the public, and managing a team of sales staff. The buyer would be expected to take an active role on the shop floor, leading by example and demonstrating sound interpersonal communication skills with both customers and staff.
Aladdin's Cave are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking individual with an enthusiastic attitude towards driving our Toy business forwards. This individual is expected to demonstrate initiative in terms of the introduction of new product ranges, the merchandising of product, and the overall running of the departments. A pro-active, professional attitude towards dealing with the public is also expected.
Core Duties
Product selection, range planning, ordering and pricing of goods
Identify new suppliers, and negotiation of trade terms with those suppliers
Management of stock
Following protocol for dealing with deliveries and delivery discrepancies
Driving and monitoring sales/turnover and profit
Dealing with customer enquiries and orders
Managing a team of sales staff, including performance monitoring and appraisals
Attending any ongoing training courses, where relevant (e.g. sales technique, management skills, health & safety, first aid etc)
Take an active role on the shop floor, leading by example and demonstrating sound interpersonal communication skills with both customers and staff.
Appearance and conduct are expected to be professional at all times.
Travel To Trade Shows As this is an intrinsic part of Buying, some travel to trade shows in the UK and abroad will be required. Currently this involves 2 to 4 trips of 1 to 4 days duration.
Buyer Skills The Buyer will be a dynamic, forward-thinking individual with an enthusiastic attitude towards driving our business forward. Strong interpersonal skills are an essential requirement as the Buyer will be expected to work effectively with colleagues, customers, and trade partners. The role involves a significant amount of computer-based work. Competency in basic Windows functions and familiarity with Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word and Outlook) is essential.
Qualifications A minimum of 6 GCSEs, including Maths and English, (grade C or above) is required.
A-levels would be an advantage, as would qualifications in Business Management/Business Studies.
Experience Previous retail experience is desired but not essential.
The appointment will be subject to satisfactory completion of a 6 month probation period.
