Business Development Manager
Working closely with the Regional Manager and the wider EMEA leadership team, the Business Development Manager is responsible for Kent Data Centres' activities in Italy and, where needed, for supporting selected neighbouring European markets where the Company has potential projects.
The role combines technical leadership in data centre MEP with business development and client management.
A key part of the job is building and maintaining market relationships, converting those relationships into qualified opportunities, and supporting contract negotiations.
Project delivery is supported by the wider technical team; the Business Development Manager remains the primary client interface, provides oversight, and may lead delivery directly on selected engagements where required.
The role requires close coordination with clients, Kent Data Centres' internal design and site teams, and executing contractors.
The Business Development Manager will work with the project sponsor and design lead to resolve issues quickly and ensure projects are delivered successfully.
Skills & Responsibilities
esOwn the business development cycle in Italy (and selected neighbouring markets as required): lead generation, opportunity qualification, bid/no‑bid input, RFP responses, proposal development, presentations, negotiation and contract close (in coordination with the bid manager and senior team
) Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the ecosystem (developers, operators, contractors, design consultants, utilities, connectivity providers, institutions
) Act as primary client interface, managing technical and commercial interactions across all project phases (on‑site and remote
) Provide technical leadership on data centre MEP infrastructure, ensuring technical consistency, risk management and quality across design and delivery stage
s. Oversee delivery of professional services (design, consultancy, PM support, site QA/QC, testing & commissioning) supported by the wider technical team; take direct delivery leadership on selected engagements where require
d. Lead strategic account management activities, supporting client satisfaction, repeat business and long‑term partnership
s. Coordinate internal teams and third parties to ensure smooth handovers between sales, design, contract execution and close‑ou
t. Manage internal and external consultants/subcontractors as required, ensuring compliance with company standards, HSE/quality requirements and contractual obligation
s. Perform site visits/inspections as needed and produce clear technical and commercial documentation (reports, proposals, client communications
) Support audits and advisory engagements, including gap analyses and post‑audit improvement roadmap
s. Establish priorities, processes and reporting in collaboration with the regional team; contribute to hiring and development of local technical capability as the business grow
s. Represent Kent Data Centres in the market (events, speaking engagements, industry forums) to support brand positioning and pipeline generatio
Skills / Qualifications
onsBachelor's degree (minimum) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipli
ne.10+ years' experience in data centre infrastructure (power and cooling), with proven exposure to end‑to‑end project phas
es.Strong understanding of data centre MEP systems, with the ability to assess design intent, ask the right questions and manage technical risk with the support of specialis
ts.Good awareness of applicable regulations and compliance requirements, and the ability to coordinate technical reviews and compliance checks with the wider te
am.Ability to contribute to early‑stage solution development (concept / schematic) based on site inputs; familiarity with CAD/Revit is a pl
us.Experience in pre‑sales and bid support (RFP responses, technical/commercial inputs, submission
s). Demonstrated track record in business development, client engagement and commercial negotiatio
ns.Familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier concepts and TIA‑942‑B (ATD certification is a plu
