Greentalent, a recruiter specialized in searching and selecting professionals and managers in the Energy, Engineering, and Environment markets, is seeking a:

  • Business Development Director

As a member of the Italy-based team, the Business Development Director will be responsible for leading and managing project development of renewable power generation technologies in Italy.

The role involves full responsibility for origination of new opportunities, mainly related to greenfield solar projects in North and Central Italy. This includes site identification, landowner agreements, grid connection processes with DSO/TSO, permitting, and advancing projects to the ready-to-build stage.

This position requires a proactive problem-solving approach, hard work, commitment to executing viable opportunities, and an open-minded, collaborative attitude to become an integral part of the team.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Originate new projects and identify new business opportunities with external partners.
  • Enhance the company's commercial network with developers, consultants, and advisors.
  • Collaborate with the development team to optimize greenfield strategies.
  • Plan and monitor all project phases, focusing on land identification, negotiations, due diligence, contracts, and land agreements review.
  • Develop and manage project budgets and cost analyses.
  • Provide input for commercial decisions to ensure value is maximized.
  • Work with the Milan-based and broader European teams to evaluate investment opportunities.
  • Communicate key issues effectively with the Board and influence transaction outcomes across stakeholders.
  • Adhere to the company's ethics, industry regulations, and act as a role model, especially for junior team members.
  • Participate in team-building activities, promote the company's brand in Italy and Europe, and uphold company values.

Basic Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Economics or Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in developing greenfield renewable projects, mainly PV.
  • Understanding of the Italian regulatory framework for utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Experience with planning regulations, external developers, and local authorities.
  • Experience managing consultants and commercial partners.
  • Strong network of relationships within Italy’s renewable sector.
  • Leadership skills to guide junior team members, partners, and advisors.
  • Curiosity, independence, and ability to work under pressure and multitask.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficient in English.
