We are looking for an Avionics Engineer - IVVQ
The job holder will be responsible for the various phases of Avionics testing, including Integration, Verification, and Validation/Qualification of Satellite Avionics systems (covering Data Handling – DHC, Attitude and Orbit Control – AOC, and Failure Detection, Isolation and Recovery – FDIR). Responsibilities extend up to the preparation of final test reports/documentation and participation in customer reviews. The role also includes the development of simulation models for the Satellite Real-Time Environment (RTE) in C/C++, compliant with the ESA ECSS SMP standard.
Main duties include:
- Development of real-time and non-real-time test environments for Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing
- Real-Time Environment (RTE) simulation modeling in C/C++, compliant with the ECSS SMP standard
- Matlab/Simulink programming
- Support in defining HW unit specifications and in the technical management of related procurement activities
- Analysis of AOCS/DHC design documentation to define appropriate verification and testing strategies
- Development and implementation of test sequences for AOCS, DHC, and FDIR functionalities
- Execution of Avionics V&V activities at Avionic Test Bench (ATB) level
The primary work location is Rome, although short to mid-term assignments at other sites may be required.
Short periods of 24-hour shift work across the full week may be necessary depending on specific program needs.
About you
Education and Experience
- You hold a Master’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Control Engineering, with a strong focus on programming, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, and Control Systems Engineering.
- You are fluent in English (C1 level or higher), with excellent listening and reading skills.
- Ideally, you have at least 2–3 years of experience in a similar role.
Skills and knowledge
- Knowledge of rigid-body kinematics and dynamics
- Familiarity with avionic sensors and actuator technologies
- Experience with real-time and non-real-time test environments (Hardware-in-the-Loop – HIL)
- Experience with software or hybrid (HW/SW) simulators
- Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink
- Proficiency in C/C++ programming
- Knowledge of ESA technical standards
- Understanding of Data Handling hardware (On-Board Computer, Remote Terminal Unit, GNSS receiver, microprocessors)
- Technical experience in interpreting satellite avionics requirements is considered a plus
- Technical experience with Avionic EGSE elements and spacecraft simulator development is considered a plus
- Ability to work with laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and protocol analyzers
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an international team
- Ability to manage workload pressures effectively
- Knowledge of quality processes and procedures
