Associate Lawyer specialized in regulatory matters – based in Luxembourg

The position is based at EIB Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. EIB offers relocation support. This is a full‑time position (grade 4/5) with a permanent contract.

Purpose

Assist the Head of Division, together with other legal advisers, in providing legal support in the area of regulatory matters, supporting compliance with the Bank’s statutory and operating framework and advising on other matters falling within the competence of the Division.

Operating Network

You will report to the Head of Division and cooperate with the other lawyers of the team. Work involves activities of various complexity, recurring and non‑standard nature, taking instructions from the Head of Division on sophisticated and complex legal matters.

Accountabilities

  • Provide legal advice and analyse banking regulations, standards and guidance being prepared or having been adopted by the EU and/or other international organisations and/or regulators affecting EIB’s activities in particular in the prudential area (CRD/CRR) and other related regulatory and supervisory topics.
  • Assist EIB’s Services and Management in assessing to what extent EU and international banking and financial regulations should be applied by EIB and EIB Group as best banking practice (BBP) and in implementing the EIB’s BBP framework.
  • Represent the Bank’s Legal Service in internal working groups (e.g. meetings, task forces) to deal with specific issues related to EIB’s BBP framework and other related regulatory topics.
  • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with the Division’s counterparts, both within and outside the Bank.
  • Make legal presentations to various internal audiences.
  • Proactively keep up to date with legal developments in the area of prudential regulatory matters and supervisory practice and share relevant knowledge to provide EIB with informed and updated perspectives.

Depending on the team workload and availability, you may also be asked to work on broader institutional and governance issues within the scope of the responsibilities of the Division.

Qualifications

  • University degree in law (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor), preferably in law of one of the EU Member States.
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in the field of international and EU banking and financial regulations.
  • Experience in an international law firm, a supervisory authority and/or experience in working with the EU institutions/agencies and/or regulators would be an advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of prudential regulation and supervisory policies and methodologies.
  • Sound knowledge of the main aspects of institutional and substantive EU law.
  • Good knowledge of the Bank’s objectives, policies and procedures in the relevant domain.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French, with a good command of the other. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
