An Indian subsidiary of Amazon.com, a US‑based MNC in the payments business, has an exciting opening for a smart, young candidate for the role of “Associate Corporate Counsel.” The role requires 3–5 years of post‑qualification experience implementing privacy and data protection requirements, experience in technology law, and providing related legal advisory. The Associate will report to a Corporate Counsel/Senior Corporate Counsel and is based in Bangalore for a fixed term of 3 years.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing ongoing legal counsel and advice on a wide range of legal areas, such as data privacy, technology law, company secretarial and regulatory compliance;
  • Supporting the development, review, and maintenance of privacy arrangements including data‑sharing agreements, privacy policies, notices, consent frameworks, and internal SOPs;
  • Monitoring regulatory developments in data protection and assessing their impact on the business;
  • Providing privacy and data protection advice for new products, features, and business initiatives;
  • Managing projects and documentation for various ongoing privacy initiatives, coordinating with internal and global teams;
  • Analyzing and assessing business processes, understanding requirements, drafting scope of contracts, and communicating effectively at all levels;
  • Demonstrating strong legal and business judgment;
  • Communicating complex issues and projects with diverse levels of management and employees.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of legal experience;
  • Associate Member (ACS) of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) with a valid membership;
  • LL.B. (undergraduate law degree) from a recognized university in India.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a mix of corporate law firm and in‑house work;
  • Experience in web services/cloud computing, software licensing, telecommunications or equivalent.
