Our mission at Florence Jr./Sr. High School is to prepare all Huskies in the tradition of excellence by equipping students to pursue the pathway of their choice with the skills and competencies identified in the Husky Graduate Profile. Florence Jr./Sr. High School serves approximately 560 students in grades 7–12 and is located along Highway 50 in Fremont County, Colorado, within close proximity to the communities of Cañon City, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo. The Fremont RE-2 School District values small class sizes, strong relationships, and high-quality Career and Technical Education programming that prepares students for college, careers, and life.

The Assistant Principal serves as a key member of the building leadership team and works collaboratively with the Principal to support the academic success, safety, and well‑being of all students. This position helps cultivate a positive, collaborative school culture aligned with the school's mission and vision while promoting instructional excellence, effective student supports, and strong relationships with families and the community. The Assistant Principal assists in the administration of the overall school program, including supervision of staff and students, implementation of instructional and behavioral systems, monitoring progress toward Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) goals, and supporting key systems such as MTSS, safety planning, and attendance initiatives. This role also works closely with teachers and teams to support Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), curriculum implementation, and continuous school improvement. The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, professionalism, compassion, and a strong commitment to student achievement, staff collaboration, and a positive school culture.

Purpose of the Position:

Under the supervision of the Principal, the Assistant Principal is a dynamic leader who helps cultivate a positive school climate and advance the school toward achieving its mission and vision. The Assistant Principal collaborates with the administrative team to support instructional and behavioral initiatives, monitor school improvement progress, and lead systems that promote student success. This position leads or supports key building teams, including MTSS and the Safety Committee, assists with staff supervision and evaluation, and works with instructional teams to ensure effective curriculum implementation and collaborative practices. The Assistant Principal represents the school within the community and maintains the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and transparency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Principal in the administration and supervision of the overall school program
  • Serve as the acting administrator in the absence of the Principal
  • Support and administer a fair, consistent student discipline system aligned with district policy
  • Assist in the supervision, support, and evaluation of certified and classified staff
  • Serve as the lead for the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), including scheduling meetings and contributing to MTSS plans
  • Oversee the building Safety Committee and ensure compliance with district safety procedures
  • Lead attendance monitoring and truancy intervention efforts
  • Support and manage daily building operations, procedures, and organizational systems
  • Assist with the development and coordination of the master schedule
  • Provide supervision of students and staff during the school day and at school events and activities
  • Support supervision of extracurricular programs and activities in collaboration with the Principal and Activities Director
  • Foster positive school-family relationships through consistent communication and collaboration
  • Coordinate required parent sportsmanship meetings and team meetings as needed
  • Conduct weekly academic eligibility checks for student activities
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all district policies, state regulations, and federal laws

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Assistant Principal may supervise employees in the building in the absence of the Principal and will carry out supervisory duties in accordance with district policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training employees
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work
  • Evaluating employee performance
  • Addressing concerns and resolving conflicts

Additional supervisory responsibilities may be assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Colorado Initial or Professional Principal License, or eligibility to obtain one, including completion of state-approved teacher evaluation training
  • Experience as an Assistant Principal preferred
  • Successful secondary teaching experience
  • Strong understanding of effective instructional practices, including formative and summative assessment
  • Knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards and state assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to implement effective student discipline and attendance systems
  • Experience in student management and building-level leadership
  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with community members and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated skills in staff supervision, support, and evaluation
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and administrators
  • Successful completion of all required background checks and fingerprinting
  • Contract: 181 days (District work calendars are available on the district website)
  • Schedule: Four-day student week

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary is based on the District Instructional Administrator Salary Schedule
    • Salary placement according to the District Instructional Salary Schedule ($86,575 - $113,839)
  • Up to twenty (20) years of administrative experience may be applied for placement on the salary schedule
  • District contribution toward benefits valued at $6,336 annually, including Health, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance
  • Leave benefits provided in accordance with District Policy
  • CASE membership dues paid by the district
