Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Assistant Director of Engineering will lead the daily operations of the facility and oversee shift coverage. Responsibilities include maintaining the functionality of guest rooms, meeting spaces, kitchens, and the building exterior. The role involves assisting with managing contractors, conducting building system inspections and preventative maintenance, and communicating effectively with hotel management regarding facility operations. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and experience in developing departmental training and operational procedures. A background of 3 to 5 years in technical areas such as HVAC, mechanical repairs, building automation, and energy management is preferred. Leadership skills and flexibility to work different shifts are essential. Hospitality industry experience is a plus.
The role also involves:
- Interviewing, selecting, training, scheduling, coaching, and supporting staff to meet brand standards and HHM core values.
- Conducting room inspections and identifying repair needs.
- Managing bids, quotes, and contracts with third-party vendors.
- Overseeing small projects and reporting on progress.
- Ensuring scheduled preventative maintenance is performed and records are maintained.
- Monitoring guest satisfaction scores and working to enhance departmental and overall guest satisfaction.
The hotels
Guests at Thompson Hotels are welcomed as residents, with personalized service and unique experiences. Thompson Austin features 212 guestrooms and suites, 17 residences, a wellness center, three restaurants, an expansive pool deck, private cabanas, and over 10,000 sq ft of event space. The 193 king room Tommie Austin is designed for adventurous guests, with art and local influences, a coffee and wine shop, and a focus on self-directed stays with warm, authentic service.
Both hotels include ground-floor dining options, a residential tower, Siena, and retail space.

Qualifications
· 3-5 years of progressive hotel or building management experience preferred.
· Service-oriented with professional presentation skills.
· Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Planning and forecasting skills for short and long-term needs.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Engineering or Facility Management degree preferred.
· Knowledge of HVAC, Refrigeration, Electrical Engineering.
· Highly organized, familiar with HotSOS or similar systems.
· Strong, empathetic leadership skills.
· Experience in hotel/resort preventative maintenance and repairs.
· Ability to walk long distances, stand for extended periods, work indoors and outdoors, and lift up to 50 lbs.
