Assistant Buyer (Toys)

Aladdins Cave: Assistant Buyer (Toys) We are delighted to share an exciting opportunity at Aladdins Cave. Reporting to the Managing Director (MD), the Assistant Buyer will support with product development, costing, negotiating & sourcing and overall running of their assigned department(s). This is a diverse role working in a fast-paced environment. Full training will be provided in all aspects of the role, and may suit an individual wishing a career change or a start in retail. The role is full time and the candidate will be required to work alternate Saturdays. In return we offer a competitive package and salary.
Core Duties
Product selection, range planning, ordering and pricing of goods
Helping to identify new suppliers, and negotiation of trade terms with those suppliers
Supporting the management of stock
Following protocol for dealing with deliveries and delivery discrepancies
Driving and monitoring sales/turnover and profit
Dealing with customer enquiries and orders
Working Closely With The Buyer And Supervisor(s) In
ensuring the smooth running of the department
organising a small team of staff
merchandising effectively
monitoring staff performance and conducting appraisals
Working Closely With The Senior Management Team In
Organising and monitoring sales promotions
Generating awareness through advertising (e.g. social media postings)
The Assistant Buyer would be expected to take an active role on the shop floor, leading by example and demonstrating sound interpersonal communication skills with both customers and staff.
The Assistant Buyer would also be expected to attend ongoing training courses where relevant (e.g. Management Skills, Health & Safety, First Aid etc). As a company we are committed to supporting our colleagues with their development, and future aspirations.
Travel To Trade Shows As this is an intrinsic part of Buying, some travel to trade shows in the UK and abroad will be required. Currently this involves 2 to 4 trips of 1 to 4 days duration.
Assistant Buyer Skills The Assistant Buyer will be a dynamic, forward-thinking individual with an enthusiastic attitude towards driving our business forward. Strong interpersonal skills are an essential requirement as the Assistant Buyer will be expected to work effectively with colleagues, customers, and trade partners. The role involves a significant amount of computer-based work. Competency in basic Windows functions and familiarity with Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word and Outlook) is essential.
Qualifications A minimum of 6 GCSEs, including Maths and English, (grade C or above) is required.
A-levels would be an advantage, as would qualifications in Business Management/Business Studies.
Experience Experience of working in retail would be an advantage.
Previous buying experience is desired but not essential as training will be provided.
The appointment will be subject to satisfactory completion of a 6 month probation period.
