ARCHITECTURAL SPECIALIST (HSE & FIRE PROTECTION)

Role Description

He/she is responsible for the coordination of architectural and civil engineering activities in Industrial Plant for Process and Non-Process Buildings Design guarantying the proper execution of the project.

The Architectural Specialist, related to the assigned project, functionally reports to the Building Design Leader for the peculiarities of Project Integrate Design and hierarchically reports to the Group Leader and Head of Department for technical deliverables quality, projects assignment, priority schedules and work methodologies.

Key Activities & Responsibilities

• Follow up buildings design for Proposal, FEED or EPC Projects on the basis given by Building Design Leader, in agreement with other engineering disciplines, executing and coordinating all activities split in different engineering centers in compliance with the budget and planning schedule, securing cost optimization.
• Manage conceptual, basic and detail design integrating multidisciplinary inputs
• Finalize design basis, finishing specifications and typical details, including fire safety requirements
• Perform design quality checks including 3D model review and fire safety compliance (escape routes, compartmentation)
• Support Project Execution Plan including HSE and Fire Protection aspects
• Perform technical feasibility analysis including fire-driven design considerations.
• Technical Bid Evaluation in Work Requisition and Material Requisition including Fire. Fighting systems and Fire Protection materials.
• Act as interface between Architecture, HSE and Fire Protection disciplines.

Fire Protection & HSE Responsibilities:

• Define fire protection design criteria for buildings
• Ensure integration of passive (compartmentation, fire rating) and active systems (sprinkler, hydrants, gas)
• Verify escape routes, travel distances and evacuation strategies
• Support fire detection, smoke management and firefighting interfaces
• Collaborate with HSE team on fire risk assessment and emergency strategies

Codes & Standards:

• Strong knowledge of the Italian Fire Code (DM 03/08/2015)
• Proven experience in applying international standards (NFPA, EN, FM Global)

Personal Attributes:

• Degree in Buildings Engineering, Architecture, Civil Engineering
• Minimum 5+ years’ experience in Building Engineering, Architectural Design Business
• Preferred experience in multinational General Contractor Business
• Preferable experience in Industrial Building Design, Civil Infrastructures Design, Hospital Design
• Architectural Detail Design experience
• Fluent in English and Italian languages
• Preferable experience in BIM project management
• Tools experience (MS Office, AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360, Naviswork, Photoshop)
• Dynamic mind-set and flexible approach
• Analytical, technical and methodology Innovation skills
• Excellent planning, collaboration, communication, problem-solving skills
• Ability to work with cross functional teams
• Flexibility to travel for short mission to international engineering lead centers and to construction sites

The following qualifications will be considered an added value

• Experience in fire protection design for industrial and civil buildings
• Knowledge of NFPA, FM Global and Italian Fire Code regulations
• Experience in coordination with HSE and Fire Protection disciplines
• Familiarity with active and passive fire protection systems
• Previous experience in EPC projects (Oil & Gas, Power, Chemical)
• Registration in Italian Ministry of Interior fire engineering list (ex L.818)
