AWS Training & Certification is looking for a passionate, talented, and inventive Applied Scientist with a strong machine learning background to help build industry-leading inference technology. Our vision is to provide delightful training experiences by pushing the envelope in multimodal LLMs and leveraging Amazon’s unique expertise. You will imagine new ways to solve customer problems, create innovative learning experiences across modalities, and enable our customers to solve challenging business problems by upskilling their workforce.
Key job responsibilities
The Applied Scientist II will contribute to the development of AI systems. The role requires extending existing scientific techniques and inventing new ones to address specific customer needs at a training and certification product level. You should be comfortable working semi‑autonomously on difficult problems with visible risks or roadblocks. You’ll work closely with product and engineering leaders within the team. We’re looking for scientists who can maintain high standards while moving quickly, prioritizing both rapid experimentation and responsible AI development to deliver measurable customer impact.
About the team
The AWS Training and Certifications team is dedicated to cultivating millions of highly skilled cloud professionals by delivering industry-leading training products and experiences, and certifications. Starting with Skill Builder – a comprehensive hub for all AWS skill acquisition – the team offers deeply personalized experiences for individuals and highly customizable experiences for organizations across modalities, assessments and certificates. Customers can access training content – both free and paid – from a wide variety of training products such as digital courses, learning plans, instructor‑led classroom training, simulated learning environments, game‑based learning formats, hands‑on labs, and social cohorts.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of building models for business application experience
- PhD or Master’s degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
- Experience in patents or publications at top‑tier peer‑reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high‑performance computing
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Unix/Linux
- Experience in professional software development

Compensation
The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon offers equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation as part of a total package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
