The role
We are looking for an AI Data Engineer to join our team and help build and consolidate the foundations of our AI data platform, enabling the development of analytical models and artificial intelligence.
The ideal candidate will be a technical reference point for the management and evolution of the data infrastructure, working closely with data scientists, architects and business stakeholders to ensure data availability, quality and accessibility across the organisation.
Key responsibilities
Data pipeline development and management
- Design, develop and maintain scalable and reliable data ingestion, transformation and distribution pipelines (ETL/ELT) for AI, ML, and analytics workloads.
- Build and optimise data flows for analytical and AI (machine learning) use cases, ensuring high performance and efficiency.
- Define and maintain AI data models, schemas and metadata to create high-quality, analytics-ready datasets.
- Monitor and ensure the operational continuity of production pipelines, intervening promptly in the event of anomalies.
AI data platform and architecture
- Collaborate with the Data Architect to design and implement scalable data platform solutions aligned with company standards.
- Integrate heterogeneous data sources (ERP, MES, LIMS systems, structured and unstructured data) into a unified AI-ready data ecosystem.
- Contribute to the development of cloud and on-premise environments for data processing and storage.
- Evaluate and introduce new tools and technologies to enhance the AI data platform capabilities.
Data quality, governance & security
- Implement automated data quality verification processes (completeness, accuracy, consistency, lineage).
- Collaborate with the Data Governance team to ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations (e.g. GxP, GDPR).
- Ensure the protection and security of sensitive data, in line with the regulatory requirements applicable to the pharmaceutical sector.
Collaboration and team support
- Support Data Scientists in building feature pipelines and development environments optimised for AI/ML model training.
- Engage with business teams to understand their needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Contribute to technical documentation and the dissemination of best practices within the team.
Requirements
Technical skills
- At least 4–5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in equivalent roles within structured organisations.
- Strong command of Python and SQL for manipulating and transforming large volumes of data.
- Experience in integrating AI solutions with enterprise data platforms and APIs.
- Experience with big data and distributed computing frameworks (e.g. Apache Spark, PySpark).
- Knowledge of cloud data platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS or GCP) and key storage and compute services.
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools.
- Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and code versioning practices (Git, CI/CD).
- Understanding of data warehousing, data lakehouse and modern data management architectures.
Nice to have
- Experience in regulated environments (pharmaceutical, life sciences, financial services).
- Knowledge of MLOps tools for managing the machine learning model lifecycle.
- Familiarity with architectures for generative AI applications (LLMs, RAG, embeddings).
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
