The Accessibility Expert is responsible for making the digital channels (app/web) accessible, the central point of contact for all web accessibility-related activities, with responsibility for integrating, managing, and supporting accessibility throughout the project lifecycle and within the company culture. This role will be instrumental in moving from reactive management (immediate bug fixes) to a proactive approach to ensuring accessible, high-quality experiences for all users.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategy and Governance

  • Define the accessibility scope for projects (new, upgrades, or maintenance).
  • Conduct research to develop a business case for accessibility, identifying the impact on the market, user activities, and business outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain accessibility policies and procedures and establish ways to monitor progress and compliance.
  • Create a compliance accountability and timeline structure.
  • Ensure accessibility is incorporated into business requirements, design requirements, QA requirements, and test cases.

Compliance and Requirements

  • Identify specific accessibility standards applicable to projects (EN ).
  • Collaborate with corporate legal resources to determine the impact of compliance requirements and manage legal risk.
  • Manage public relations implications related to non‑compliance.

Project and Resource Management

  • Establish the budget and evaluate the necessary resources (tools, training, personnel) to integrate and support accessibility.
  • Assign specific accessibility roles and responsibilities to team members.
  • Assess existing team skills and ensure members have access to accessibility training resources.
  • Consider involving accessibility experts or team members with disabilities to support accessibility.

Continuous Improvement and Training

  • Communicate with stakeholders (internal and external) to evaluate accessibility integration and identify areas for improvement through feedback.
  • Conduct post‑fix debriefings to identify lessons learned and prevent future issues.
  • Ensure training for specific roles (Managers, Designers, Engineers, QA Testers).
  • Improve digital accessibility integration across all business processes.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to drive cultural changes and foster employee commitment to accessibility.
  • Proven experience managing complex programs or projects, preferably in technology or software development.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of WCAG 2.0 Level AA and web accessibility guidelines.
  • Ability to assess team experience and determine training needs.

Nice to have

  • Experience in physical security.
  • Professional accessibility certifications, such as the Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) or Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), are highly recommended.
