POSITION PURPOSE
Provides speech screenings to children. Refers children and their parents to community agencies and professionals as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs speech screenings for children ages 2.5 -5.11 years
- Assists in the coordination of Child Find and referral process
- Works with community agencies to provide services/programs to meet needs of children inside/outside of the school environment
- Cooperates with school personnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of children
- Compiles data and prepares various reports and records required by the school, district, and/or other agencies
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of School Readiness, Chief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology or Speech Education
- Must hold or be eligible to hold a professional teaching certificate in the area of Speech Correction from the South Carolina Department of Education
EXPERIENCE
- Prior tutorial experience preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of children
- Ability to work with others
- Willingness to follow directions
- Ability to handle unforeseen situations in accordance with Board Policy
- Ability to accept individual differences among children
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented

- Use strength to lift items needed to perform the functions of the job
- Sit, stand and walk for required periods of time
- Speak and hear
- Use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception along with the ability to focus vision
- Communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered acceptable forms of communication
- Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, technology equipment, computers, and/or controls

- Have regular and punctual attendance

- Adhere to confidentiality as directed by Federal, State and Local Laws/Regulations; and in accordance with district administrative rules as it pertains to sensitive information, employee information and student information. Failure to adhere to confidentiality may result in disciplinary actions, up to and including termination of employment
